No bedroom is complete without a comforter. No longer are they for just keeping us warm on a cold winter night. Today comforters have all but replaced bedspreads, and with good reason. Bedspreads were often unsuitable as a warm top cover. Often the style of the bedspread made it uncomfortable to sleep under. As life has become more casual and the formality of having a fitted bedspread is no longer essential, the need for a new style bed cover was answered by either a duvet or a comforter.
Duvets are often too expensive for many of our purses. For that reason, the comforter has taken over as the principal means of keeping our beds warm in winter. With that in mind, we are often faced with a challenge when it comes to making a selection. What color should we buy? Should we purchase a patterned fabric or a solid? What will work with our present bedroom decor?
The simple answer is that black and white comforters are a good place to begin. The color combination is considered neutral because one or two colors can be used with the basic black and white without creating an overwhelming color scheme. If one selects a clean pattern, such as hotel style bedding, the lines are simple and straight offering the opportunity to use floral or print patterns with it. If one selects a Damask pattern or a toile pattern, it is traditional and elegant, yet will work very well with stripes or polka dots in the same color or in combination with an accent color. This pattern mixture has become very popular for daybed bedding, creating a warm country look.
Regardless of one’s preference in colors, it is safe to say that the basic combination of the most neutral colors will either add to the overall decor by pattern selection or will blend beautifully into the bedroom without disrupting existing patterns or color schemes.
