Investing in shares is a topic that serious consideration should be given to, if you are looking for somewhere to put your money so that it can experience growth.
Investing is something that a lot of people are scared of – and for no good reason. It seems that people think that there is so much for them to learn that they can never grasp even the basics. And then they hear about how much money is made on the stock market, trading shares and think there is no way they could make even a fraction of that money. It is all sewn up by professionals after all isn’t it?
Now, it is true that unlike day trading (a very risky form of investing in shares), you will not be seeing crazy upward and downward swings in the value of your shares. There will be dips, certainly, but there will also be peaks. Judged over a few years, growth should be obvious and consistent.
When shares are talked about, what is actually happening when you deposit your money is that you are gaining a piece of a company at a certain price. Over time, the value of that piece of company you have will go up (or down) as the company’s profits increase or decrease as well as a number of other variables.
Be aware that getting into shares is not a short term proposition. A rule of thumb should be five years or more is a good amount of time to have your money in shares. This gives your money time to increase and decrease, but ultimately, good gains should be able to be realized.
One of the main reasons that shares are so good to invest in is the ease of use factor. Buying and selling shares can happen quickly (certainly over the internet or phone), in any amount that you wish to use, and at small fees.
A lot of investors prefer to have people buy their shares for them. This is where fund managers come in. These fund managers look after a lot of people’s money and make decisions for everyone based on their insight into the money market. Their aim is to make their investors money, whilst charging a small fee for every trade they make. This is their cut and is why they do what they do.
