Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Boxes

Self cleaning cat litter boxes come in a wide variety of styles, and one can be found to fit any pocket book.  The beauty of a self cleaning litter box is that it isolates the cat’s waste products in a containment area, making removal easier.  Instead of having to dump a cat box full of dirty litter, causing dust, odors, and possibly the release of infective agents, a self-cleaning litter box will keep the whole house cleaner, for your family and your cat.

You will find that self cleaning boxes range from very low-tech, but easy to use models, right up through very sophisticated models that run on electricity.  Regardless of their level of technology, the fact remains that this style of litter box will release you from some of the most unpleasant aspects of owning a cat.

A very effective, non electric style of self cleaning litter box is one that will tip to remove the wastes to a containment bin.  This type of box is available in several sizes to accommodate anything from one to several cats.  Tipping the box to the side will caused the clumped wastes to be separated from the rest of the litter and deposited in an easy to empty containment box.  These boxes are generally low in price, making them available to almost every cat owner.

The rake style of litter box will be the next step up in this line.  These boxes operate either with batteries or can be plugged into the wall socket.  When your cat enters the box, a sensor begins a timing sequence.  After the required length of time, giving your cat plenty of time to use the box and then leave, a rake will draw itself through the litter, catching clumps and then placing them into a container at the end of the box.  The container will seal itself, making sure that no odors can escape.  As a safety feature, if the rake touches your cat, the process will stop immediately, making sure that no harm comes to your pet.

Another kind of self-cleaning litter box is one in which not only the waste container is disposed of, but the entire litter tray itself is replaced.  This type also works on the rake principle, whereby waste is deposited in a receptacle, but instead of changing the litter in the box after it has become depleted, the litter tray itself is just thrown out.  Depending on how many cats use this litter box, you can go weeks between replacement.  Simply lift the enclosing framework, which contains the rake and sensors, slide out the old tray and slide in a new one.
