Glass Bath Shower Shelves

Many of the classier lines of shower cubicles are constructed with glass, due to the fact that ever since its widespread use post Dark Ages, glass has typically been seen as very upper crust and high society. Even nowadays, with glass far from being a scarce commodity or a luxury, it can still be used to achieve a certain ambience that plastic lacks. Glass, being translucent for the most part, can be colored, stained, or fogged (or even etched) to create effects that are difficult to properly mimic with plastic. It also has a certain subtle feel that strong metals are entirely lacking in.

This is possibly the main reason that many walk in showers are constructed out of a glass enclosure. The glass, despite its potential for extreme fragility (particularly if you have a tendency towards clumsiness, or active children/house guests/pets) has a charm to it that few other materials, as previously mentioned, can come close to duplicating. The only real problem is the issues that can result in particular because of glass’s natural tendency to break in extremely sharp ways, or even just have naturally sharp edges.

When your bath shower shelves are constructed primarily out of glass, there is a tendency for them to have extreme edges at with a sharp surface. This is not exactly conducive to bathing health. Granted, caution in a glass shower cubicle is always advisable, but the main idea is to reduce the problem of edges entirely, lest someone bump their head on a shelf while bending over to retrieve the soap and end up with a laceration that takes several stitches to close. Head wounds are no fun for anyone.

Some good advice to mitigate head injuries would be to pad the edges of your bathroom shower shelves with some kind of rubberized protective, which would resist water damage, increase grip, and prevent nasty head wounds all at the same time. Of course there is no substitute for simple caution, which is a virtue that all should practice at all times, regardless of the amount of protection available.
