Although we seem more enamoured with diamonds these days, the ruby is a gemstone with just as much, if not more, history and prestige. We all know that diamonds are extortionate buy not many understand that a perfect ruby, of the correct color is actually worth more than a diamond of a similar size. The fact that rubies are supposed to protect us from disease and infection and help the wearer reach a good age has always added to their appeal, and some of that seems to have carried over to the present day. Although their appeal my just be down the amazing look they give to any piece of jewelry in which they are used.

Modern day ruby engagement rings use the finest stones available set in gold or platinum, sometimes incorporating diamonds to create a ring that is certainly not going to be cheap. Having said that consumers know that when they are buying rubies they are buying perhaps the finest gemstones on earth combined with valuable precious metals. These things can never come cheap.
