Closets as Scrapbook Rooms

If you don’t have the luxury of others who make separate scrapbook rooms, there may be other options available to you. One such option is setting up a space in a closet.

Setting up scrapbook rooms in closets has been done for a long time. That is just people making optimum use of the space they have.

To begin setting up scrapbook rooms in a closet, most people would like to start fresh and clean. So, after you clean out the closet and make it completely empty, give it a good scrubbing. After this is done, paint it. It is recommended to paint it a light colour like white or something similar. Lighter colours help make scrapbook rooms seem brighter and cheery. If you choose something dark, you may regret it since there are no windows in closets. You won’t have the benefit of having outside light to brighten up the space. So go with something light.

Next, if you can afford to have a professional closet designer come in and design custom built in furniture for the space, then do it. This would be ideal. Scrapbook rooms that are in closets must make efficient use of space and who better than a closet designer to do that. They are well experienced with making things fit!

If you cannot afford to have a designer work your closet space into a scrapbook room, then you will need to plan it yourself. Here are some tips to get you started.

- measure
- draw a floor plan
- draw in the furniture

Measuring the space and drawing up a floor plan is something that is a must for scrapbook rooms, even those that are in a dedicated room of their own. It helps you plan out what furniture and accessories will go where. Keep a copy of it in your purse or scan it to your computer so you can refer to it easily. Take it with you when you go shopping for furniture. You will need to know the dimensions of the closet with the door closed as well. That is if you are planning on closing the door to hide “the mess.” Well, it’s not a “mess” to us scrapbookers, is it?

When shopping for furniture, you will need to be very exact in your measurements. For a closet space you will want to use as much of the space as possible so try to find furniture that will work well together and fit snugly in the space.
