What can be more stunning than the sight of a majestic sea vessel smoothly cutting through the waves of the high seas. There is no doubt that these matriarchs of the sea spell luxury and comfort. But there are certain adventures that are better experienced in small luxury liners fit for a hundred passengers or less. Going on an Alaska cruise can be done in these small cruise boats to get the chance to see and feel nature up close and personal.

This kind of adventure tourism is catered to by many shipping lines. The ones expected to find pleasure in these kind of tourism are those who like the adventure and not the accommodations. The tourists are more enthusiastic about communing with nature and people. An Alaska cruise on board a small ship is quite ideal.

The rooms will, of course, have wonderful sea views without much difficulty. The general atmosphere is laid-back and affable. Small adventures are possible in Alaska cruise like hiking, kayaking, riding in inflatable skiffs, paddle boarding and snorkeling are very possible because docking is not done on ports but on breathtaking coves which offer a lot to adventure tourists. The usual fancy things found lin big cruise ships like restaurants, spas, gyms are of course lacking in these small cruise ships. Instead, one is gifted with serene nights and an opportunity to know people who become fast friends. A view of the night horizon and a drink from the friendly bar beckons the weary bodies and minds to the much needed tranquility and languor. Sleep comes early induced by waves lapping on the sides of the boat. The dining experience can match anything served on a big liner-sumptuous, fresh and a wide spread.

The Alaska cruise can take you to actually seeing and feeling the whales and eagles playing and enjoying everyone’s attention too. Two sights that must be visited at all cost are the Sawyer Glacier and the Misty Fjords.

All good things must come to the inevitable end. Time just passed too quickly, it is time to say goodbye to new friends. There is more to the Alaska cruise than just getting lost in the crowd in the big liners. Really, cruising in smaller crafts have a different kind of adventure appeal.

Cut off from the rest of the country in terms of geography by the mountains of Monchique, Caldeirao, Espinhaco de Cao, and Mesquita, and in historical terms by its long occupation by the Moors and associations with North Africa, the Algarve has an atmosphere and its people an attitude that is distinctly different from the rest of Portugal. All of the peoples who initially occupied the area, including the Turdetanos, the Phoenicians, and the Moors regarded it as a natural part of the same kingdom as North Africa and beautiful Azores.

The 5,000 sq km (2,000 sq miles) of the Algarve form a gentle declivity from the northern mountains down to the golden beaches, red cliffs and marshlands of the southern and western coast. It was from this that the region gained its name Al-Gharb, which in Arabic means the land that falls away to the west. The Moors included in this title the lands of North Africa, and it was the custom for succeeding kings of Portugal to style themselves also as kings of the Algarve. The area was attractive to these peoples as well as to the Greeks and to the Romans for much the same reasons as it is attractive to visitors today, the remarkable mildness of the climate which makes it feel like spring almost throughout the year, the great variety of flora and fauna, and a particular clarity and freshness in the air that is unique to the area. Sadly, however, much of the traditional atmosphere and tranquility of the coastal resorts, particularly west of Faro has been destroyed by over hasty exploitation of the natural resources of sun, sea, and sand.

The Eastern Algarve from Vila Real to Olhao is a far less intensively developed stretch of coastline than that of the western coast. It is quite different from traditional images of the Algarve, the coastline being made up not of rocky, picturesque coves, but rather of long stretches of sandy beach, protected from the sea by long low-lying offshore islands. These islands themselves have long attractive beaches as well as providing a unique environment for some of Portugal’s most interesting wildlife. Inland from the coast too this region provides some fascinating historical and cultural sites in the Algarve, an area often thought of as a cultural wasteland.

Are you planning on going to Cabo San Lucas for a vacation with your families and or friends? Well then, a good idea for you would be to check out the Baja Raiders and book a charter boat trip for it.

Why is is this important? Well, if you are going to Cabo San Lucas, you should have done your research well and by now, you should be aware that the area of Cabo San Lucas is most well known for having one of the best fishing grounds in the entire world. If you are going to Cabo San Lucas, then you should definitely not miss the opportunity to try your hand out in sports fishing – whether you are inexperienced or an expert on fishing.

Booking a charter boat ride for yourself and your family and friends is a very important part of going to Cabo San Lucas. This is so that you can be sure that you will be prepared when you arrive in the area.

One of the flaws of many vacationers in Cabo San Lucas – and in other areas as well – is that they fail to prepare sufficiently beforehand. Thus, they end up being quite disappointed in some of the times in their trip. Being prepared is the key to enjoying your trip. Though it may seem fun just to go ahead and swing it, such trips are not always the most successful.

So, the thing that you should remember is that before you go on a vacation to Cabo San Lucas, you should remember to do your research on all the activities that you and your company can partake in so that when you get there, you will not have to miss a single attraction that Cabo San Lucas can offer.

After all, you wouldn’t want to get to Cabo San Lucas only to discover that you are not well equipped to go Cabo sportfishing when this is something which you really want to try in the area.

The Half Moon Party is Koh Phangan’s second biggest regular music event. It is very much over-shadowed by the bigger Full Moon Party in Haad Rin that pulls in over 30,000 people in the high seasons. The Half Moon Party is a curious mix of interesting new music and the brand of psy-trance that has come to define the Koh Phangan party scene.

The Half Moon Party occurs twice a month. It is timed so that there is a party 1 week before and 1 week after the Full Moon Party. The venue for the event is a clearing in the jungle just outside Ban Tai on the road to Thong Nai Pan. The event has been running for several years now and as a result there are quite good facilities at the party spot. There is a DJ booth with decking in front. In the center of the dance floor is a large pole holding up an installation that becomes part of the lighting show. There are also 2 large screens which VDJs use. Behind the dance floor there is an elevated chill out area with low seating and hammocks.

The party starts with Moscowfish. They are an electronic band from Canada that has set up a recording studio on Koh Phangan. They play an intriguing blend of trip hop and wistful pop. Moscowfish are at the head of the growing music scene in Koh Phangan, and are sure to land a recording contract in the future.

Moscowfish is followed by DJ Boyonic playing progressive house and accompanied by live African djembe drummers on the decking in front of the DJ booth. This is another example of Koh Phangan music trying to combine live elements into the show.

After the drumming the Harmony Team DJs take over for the rest of the night. Some of the DJs mix their own tracks. However, the overall impression is of a sound derivative of Goa trance from the late 1990s. Unless you love trance music this part of the night can become tiresome. It is the sound favored at the Jungle Experience, Black Moon Party, Backyard Party, Ban Sabai After Party and several of the venues at the Full Moon Party. It is a style of dance music that is frankly being over done on the island and that seems very much old hat compared to the latest dance music being made in London, New York and Tokyo.

Thus, in a way the Half Moon Party epitomizes the music scene in Koh Phangan as a whole. It is a scene that is on the verge of breaking out of cliché but held back by commercial interests that are keen to stick to a ‘winning formula’.

Ever since its arrival on the international tourist scene in the 1970s Koh Samui has been seeking to align itself with the biggest resort areas in Thailand. This has been good news for those seeking luxury accommodations and the convenience of international airports, golf courses and fine dining. For those who are cost conscious it has not been good news. However, one area in Koh Samui continues to provide good value for money. That area is Maenam.

It is a long stretch of beach located in the north of the island next to the boutique shops, bars and restaurants of Bophut. It is a quiet and tranquil beach that has plenty of tree cover and is perfect for relaxing. There are no beach touts and the beach is free of the noise of traffic.

While the sea gets deep quickly at Maenam it is free of dead coral on the seabed. Another advantage is that the sea is free of the polluting fumes from jet skis. The atmosphere in the beach is far more relaxed than either Chaweng or Lamai.

Maenam accommodations offer excellent value for money. Most places have a small communal pool and offer rooms in tropical gardens with air-conditioning, hot water, satellite TV and fridge. Prices start at $20 a night in the low season at such locally owned guest houses as the Mae Mai House. Tropical Garden Lounge is another place near the beach that offers comfortable bungalows and a communal pool.

At night there are a few beachfront bars to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset. There is also the popular Lazy Coconut Bar in town but otherwise Maenam town has very little night life. It is not noisy at night and there are no notorious ‘beer bar’ spots. Rather in the evening the locals can be seen strolling down Walking Street in Maenam trying the local delicacies from the street stalls.

Maenam is in many ways a glimpse back at the past. It is a beach town that retains its Thai feeling. It is very much part of the charm of Maenam.

When planning a getaway to the beautiful resort town of Cap d’Agde, one of the first things you will need to consider is how you will get there. Another important consideration is the type of Cap d’Agde accommodation you choose. Once you have your basic transportation and accommodation needs taken care of, it is time to start researching the many great things this wonderful resort area has to offer. The entire town of Cap d’Agde and the surrounding area has many fantastic things to see, so making a plan on how you can best explore the area is essential.

Fortunately, there is already a good amount of research already done on this area compiled by the tourist office in Cap d’Agde. They have devised some magnificent audio walking tours to help visitors to the area discover the unique heritage and local nature of the area.

In all, there are five different guided walks to choose from. These walking tours are available in 6 languages including French, English, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and German. Each walking tour has its own particular theme and will encompass a variety of interesting sights along the way. As you walk, you will be able to listen to the audio commentary designed for that specific location or feature.

For example, there is a tour of Agde which features the history of the city. The walk covers the rich 2600 year history of this city with stops at places such as the Rampart walls, Agathois Museum and Saint-Etienne Cathedral. Another tour named “On the Volcano” takes visitors for a magnificent view from the top of the beautiful Mont St Loup. There is also a magnificent walk known as “Deep Blue Sea” which takes a course beside the Hérault River and offers detailed information on many key points in the maritime history that played such an important role in the development of this area.

One of the best things about taking part in one of these walking tours is that you can take in the sights at your own pace because you are not part of a larger group. The beautiful weather of Cap d’Agde brings more than 260 glorious days filled with sunshine, each year. A walking tour in this area is a great way to discover more about this amazing resort town.

Hotels in Cap d’Agde and Agde are plentiful and suit most budgets. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Part of a chain of golden sandbars, the cape and nearby islands are a battleground between land and sea. Anyone who climbs the 268 steps to the top of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest on the Atlantic Coast of the United States, can easily see why the nearby shoals have been called the Graveyard of the Atlantic Two great ocean currents collide offshore—the warm Gulf Stream flowing north and a cold counter current flowing south—over a treacherous, ever-shifting expanse of sandy shallows known as Diamond Shoals. The combination of tumultuous waves, foamy whitecaps, dangerous currents, and shallow water, as well as the dense fogs and raging storms generated by the mixing of cold and warm waters, has claimed at least 500 ships, from wooden galleons to the Monitor of Civil War fame and modern merchantmen.

Cape Hatteras itself is the major promontory on Hatteras Island, one of a chain of barrier islands that stretch almost unbroken for nearly 200 miles (320 kilometers) off the coast of North Carolina. Known collectively as the Outer Banks, they are a series of slender sandspits that barely project above the sea. Nowhere more than 21/2 miles (4 kilometers) wide, for long stretches they are not much more than 1,200 feet (365 meters) across. Yet in places the islands lie more than 25 miles (40 kilometers) off the mainland coast, forming a fragile barrier between crashing Atlantic surf and the shallow, placid waters of Pamlico and other lagoon-like sounds.

Resting on a deeply buried foundation of granite and thick layers of sediment on the continental shelf, the islands came into being as the Ice Age drew to a close about 10,000 years ago. As glaciers melted far to the north, sea levels rose all around the world. In this area the sea flooded lowlands behind the former coastline, creating Pamlico and the other sounds. The sand of what had once been coastal dunes meanwhile was shifted more than once to form the barrier islands.

The islands are far from stable. During severe storms the sea frequently breaches the narrow sandbars, creating inlets where there were none before. Coastal currents, in turn, sometimes shift the sand and seal off inlets between adjacent islands. Even the contours of Cape Hatteras itself are constantly being altered by waves and currents.

But the sea, aided by the wind, piles sand up as well as washes it away. On Bodie Island, just north of Hatteras, wind and waves have created the highest sand dune on the Atlantic coast of the United States—Jockey’s Ridge, at 138 feet (42 meters). Nearby is another famous dune, Kill Devil Hill, where the Wright brothers flew their first airplane in 1903.

The ever-shifting Outer Banks are probably temporary. In time, the Atlantic may wipe away these strips of sand forever. In the meantime, holiday visitors will continue to enjoy the miles of pristine beaches that have been preserved at Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout National Seashores.

I had thought this sort of mix-up only occurred in films. Throughout the entire experience, I couldn’t help but be reminded of half a dozen screwball comedy bag-switching dramas. I had been looking forward to my vacation for months. I had packed everything I needed to have a blissfully relaxing getaway: a book to read, a drawing book to sketch in, and, most importantly, my wine carrying case. It’s a beautiful case: a 3-bottle design, black, genuine leather, shoulder strap, retractable handle; it’s even temperature controlled. Inside I had packed three Aubert Chardonnay’s from my cellar; it’s a favorite of mine, and since it’s so versatile, I figured it would work with anything or for any occasion while I was on vacation.

I also packed a small case with two wine glasses, and I was set. Whether sketching on the banks of the river or sharing an evening with someone special, I would have my favorite wine handily accessible. But apparently, I’m not the only one who likes to take wine along with me on vacation. I checked in my wine carrying case at the airport without any stress—the case is easy and convenient to pack, and the design is such that I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about anything happening to the wine while it was being handled. When I arrived at my destination, I picked up my luggage without a problem, easily recognizing my suitcase and wine carrying case.

I went to my hotel, unpacked, and began to plan the next few days. For the next evening, I set up a date with an old friend. I knew she appreciated Chardonnay, so I was anticipating the pleasure of sharing a bottle with her. Just to make sure that my wines had made it safely over the Atlantic, I opened the case to check on them. But when I opened the case I found, not three Chardonnay’s, but three bottles of Don Luciano Shiraz. Imagine my dismay. Now, my Chardonnay’s were high-class. These, on the other hand, were rubbish; they were $4 wines that were, in my experience, likely to taste like roadkill. Why anyone would bother getting a wine carrying case just to bring garbage like that on vacation, I will never understand.

Put out and more than a little concerned, I called the airport to see if anyone had reported picking up the wrong luggage. Fortunately, someone had. They gave me the man’s contact information, and I promptly called him and arranged a meeting. He seemed relieved as well, though I can’t imagine why; he had come out of our accidental exchange with the better end of the stick, if you ask me. We met briefly and exchanged cases. Unfortunately, it didn’t occur to me to open the case he had handed me until I had returned to my hotel. When I opened it to greet my lost-and-found Chardonnay’s, I found three Columbia Valley Merlot’s.

Whether these or the other man’s Shiraz was worse, I was not sure. What I was sure of was that having three identical wine carriers on the same flight was outrageous. I called the airport again. Fortunately, there happened to be an old lady who was missing her Columbia Valley Merlot’s. I swear, though, that if she had known any better, she would have just kept my Chardonnay’s. I managed to get my case—my own case—back in time for my date. It was quite a hassle, but at least it provided me with an interesting story to share over a glass of Chardonnay that evening. The moral of the story: when you travel, put something on your wine carrying case to make it distinctivly yours.

Baan Bang Kao is a small village on the south coast of Koh Samui. Unlike the north and northeast of the island Baan Bang Kao has retained its atmosphere as a traditional Thai island settlement. For those looking to discover the other side of Koh Samui Baan Bang Kao offers an ideal opportunity.

Koh Samui first started receiving foreign guests in 1971 and since then the island has undergone some major changes in order to benefit from the revenues to be had from tourism. Concrete roads, big hospitals, an airport, supermarkets and golf courses are just some of the visible signs of this transformation of Koh Samui from a remote island in the Gulf of Thailand to a major international tourist destination.

Those devotees of Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut would argue that all the changes have been for the good. Those original two backpackers that first made it to Koh Samui might disagree.

Baan Bang Kao is suitable for those seeking to find the Koh Samui before the big development changed the island. Bang Kao beach is a 2 km long stretch of white sand fringed by palm trees. It is a very quiet beach. There are a few resorts to stay at and a few beach bars but the beach remains virtually deserted year round. Beyond a few drinks on the beach to watch the sunset there is no nightlife to speak of.

Near the beach is Wat Khunaram. It is a pleasant Thai temple that is unusual in that it contains the 30 year old mummified remains of a former monk wearing sunglasses. The Koh Samui mummy is in good condition. The story goes that that the monk was not discovered to be dead for quite a while. When they did discover he was dead they noticed his body didn’t decompose. This was treated as a miracle by the local parishioners and the monk was duly mummified.

For those with a yen for exploring it is possible to hire a local longtail boat at Baan Bang Kao and take a snorkeling trip to the nearby islands of Koh Tan and Koh Mutsum. There is also a butterfly garden on the neighboring beach of Laem Natien.

However, for most people staying in a resort in Bang Kao the main thing to do is enjoy the local seafood restaurants, watch the local fishermen and take in the flavor of the local culture and beautiful island setting.

A lot of RVers say that living an RV lifestyle is cheaper and more convenient, but is motorhome living affordable as they say it is?

For one, when living in an RV, you have lesser expenses when it comes to monthly bills. Aside from the basic necessities like food and such, RV living is more affordable because you only have to worry about maintaining your recreational vehicle, the cost of fuel and camping fees. When you have a home or apartment to maintain, you are saddled with different monthly bills no matter if you use them or not, while with RVing, everything is pay as you go. For example, you only pay for telephone and electricity hook-ups when you use them, so you are not saddled with any overpriced fixed monthly rates for these utilities. And since you are more likely to stay in isolated areas when you go RVing, you would not have any needs for these utilities that often. Anyway, a lot of RVs now a-days are equipped with the best and necessary amenities, not just bedroom, bathroom and kitchen areas, but with special utilities like a water tank and solar panels which allows energy and water efficiency.

Aside from the cost, there are many other advantages of the RV lifestyle. RVing is really great for those who enjoy traveling and going sight seeing. RVs allow you to go adventuring without worrying about accommodations and such since everything you might possibly need are already provided in the RV. There are a lot of beautiful places which are isolated and far from modern civilization. It is nice to actually spend some days in these places just to relax from the hustle and bustle of city life and get that much needed R&R while being one with nature. Having an RV would make this places much more accessible and enjoyable since you can spend days at a time enjoying the different sceneries while getting that quiet and solitude you need.
