Think about painting only one of your walls in your favorite color while leaving the others in a neutral shade and then perhaps having one chair in purple and then it will be ok to use purple on your floor.

Alternatively choose a patterned rug so that you introduce other colors along with your favorite to balance things out a little.

The best way to use a purple rug is, in fact, in an altogether more neutral room, the actual shade of purple depending on the kind of neutral you choose. Colder colors (which have more blue undertones) go well with white, gray and black neutral backgrounds and warmer berry colors (which have more of a red component) go better with cream or beige neutrals. Once you have a neutral room, you can then add your rug along with a couple of other items in the same shade of purple and you will find that your rug is no longer lost in a sea of other purple items.

When choosing a purple rug, you also need to take care that you are buying a quality product. As this color grabs so much attention, poor quality tends to be very obvious although with other colors you can “get away with it”.
