Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few years, you will have no doubt noticed how popular gladiator sandals have become.  You see them everywhere.  Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Mary Kate Olsen and others have helped to popularize them.  They appear on fashion runways, in fashion magazine and on women’s feet all across the U.S. and world.

So where did these gladiator sandals come from?  They are originally inspired by the ancient Roman footwear worn by gladiators.  However, today’s modern footwear is a far cry from the gladiator garb.

What are Gladiator Sandals?

One of the hottest new fashion trends, as far as shoes go, are gladiator sandals.  If you don’t know what they are, they are sandals that feature straps and buckles, and usually leather, that are fashioned to look like the sandals that gladiators wore in ancient Rome.  Obviously, they are dressed up nice, and made to look glamorous in order to appeal to the style of the women who will be wearing the sandals, but they are have the same type of design elements that make them gladiator sandals.  They are extremely popular, especially from spring time until the end of summer (mostly from  March and through August).  Most of the styles are so glamorous that they go perfect with many outfits, even if you are dressing up pretty formally.  If you look on the Hollywood red carpet during the aforementioned months, you will notice many celebrities wearing the gladiator sandals and showing off their sense of the hottest new styles.
